Job Description:

Gender & Diversity Advisor - (Reference No. CO-GIZ 2020/041)

A.  Responsibilities

The advisor is responsible for

  • Advising Country Director, Cluster Coordinators (CCT) and ORCs / AVs on the implementation and monitoring of the GIZ Gender Strategy and on gender priorities identified in the country (i.e. Annual Action Plan)
  • Advocating and monitoring programme-wide adherence to the GIZ Gender Strategy and to corporate policies related to diversity, equal opportunity and prohibition of sexual harassment
  • Facilitating the HR teams on orientation / onboarding of new recruits on GIZ Gender Strategy and policies related to the topics
  • Steering the Anti-Sexual Harassment Campaign
  • Guiding and supporting the Gender Focal Persons in the projects

Within this context, the advisor fulfils the following tasks:

B.  Tasks

  • Inform and advise the AVs and Country Director about new developments regarding gender in GIZ
  • Ensure the flow of information with Gender Focal Persons at the project (e.g. on major milestones or good practices in your country)
  • Inform relevant AVs on Gender Weeks and Gender Prize Competitions and promote participation
  • Contribute to GIZ-wide reporting on the implementation of the Gender Strategy as and when required
  • Ensure knowledge management on gender aspects at country level
  • Participate in Gender Network Meetings and workshops
  • Motivate, develop capacities and raise awareness regarding gender equality among managers and colleagues
  • Maintains a high degree of cooperation and synergy with all projects/ programmes of GIZ on gender and diversity inclusion
  • Cooperates with and ensures regular dialogue with different forums within GIZ and with counterparts, and stakeholders (cooperation partners and target groups) to enhance and maintain good networking and advocacy related to gender mainstreaming
  • Advocates and communicates GIZ’s stance on gender and success stories within and outside GIZ with different actors / stakeholders and networks to exchange ideas and information
  • Establishes and operationalizes a community of practice on gender mainstreaming within GIZ Pakistan and international programmes of GIZ
  • Disseminates knowledge on gender equality and diversity inclusion within GIZ Pakistan and outside through regular updates/ briefs on international trends and developments
  • Produces guidelines / strategies, technical concepts, manuals and tools in collaboration with CCT and GFPs for promotion of gender equality in GIZ and GIZ programmes
  • Establishes a knowledge base system/ library within GIZ to document GIZ initiatives and best practices on gender equality
  • Participates in recruitment processes as member of the selection panel 

C.  Required qualifications, competences and experience

Qualifications

  • University degree (preferably master’s level) in gender studies, development, social science, law or a related discipline

Professional experience

  • At least 5 years of full-time work experience in a development or government organization (international organization, national administration, etc. would be an asset) active in the field of Gender and/or women empowerment
  • Experience in dealing with the administrative body of the public sector in Pakistan
  • Proof of professional expertise in gender mainstreaming (publications, seminar participation, etc.)
  • Demonstrated passion for gender equality and diversity

Other knowledge, additional competences

  • Sound knowledge and understanding of gender mainstreaming and research
  • General interest in economic development and social progress in Pakistan
  • Excellent command of MS-Office and relevant ICT applications
  • Excellent writing and speaking skills in English and Urdu; Pashto would be an asset
  • Proven communication and networking skills
  • Good working knowledge of modern communication systems
  • Strong independent organisational competence; proactivity and team-oriented
  • Willingness to undertake official travel to Provinces, when required
  • High degree of flexibility and willingness to adapt as required by the tasks and at the request of superiors
